WHAT IS THE DESIRED OUTCOME FOR PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING THIS COURSE?   

Participants should become more competent, capable, knowledgeable, and motivated asphalt inspectors.

WHAT SKILLS WILL PARTICIPANTS BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE?

  • Recognizing inspector roles and responsibilities relative to TxDOT asphalt inspection.
  • Proper application of TxDOT asphalt specifications on a project.
  • Improved communication skills on the project with AE and contractor personnel.
  • Expressing confidence in knowing what materials to use and why.
  • Understanding a TxDOT’s inspector’s roles and responsibilities in enforcing contract documents.
  • Compliance with TxDOT’s Inspector Development Program Module 11 – Hot Mix Asphalt Pavements and Permeable Friction Course requirements.
  • Identifying Materials (Aggregate and Binder) and Mix Design types for use on specific projects.
  • Recognizing Production and Roadway Best Practices that will yield quality paving projects.

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

We encourage all interested participants to enroll in multiple courses for a well-rounded education in asphalt pavements.

WHERE ARE WORKSHOPS HELD?

All workshops are held via Zoom until further notice. Participants will be required to have a webcam with audio/video active during the lectures, participate in class discussions, and complete homework assignments to successfully complete the course requirements.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

The course will be taught online with two, 2.5-hour lectures per week for three consecutive weeks (6 total sessions).  Additional online homework will be assigned after each lecture to be completed prior to the next lecture (minimum 1 hour of work). Total time commitment is a minimum of 16 hours.  

WHAT KIND OF CREDIT DO PARTICIPANTS EARN?

These TXAPA Asphalt Education Programs are designed to add asphalt-specific knowledge to the professional toolkits of those tasked with specifying, designing, inspecting, producing, placing, and testing asphalt projects. The workshops may be required or strongly encouraged by your employer.

The TXAPA Asphalt Education Programs are considered professional development and are eligible for PDH credits. At this time, the program does not offer certification.

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?

The Inspector Asphalt Education Program is $650 per person and includes all course materials.
