10:00 AM Keynote: Got Density? A Rewind

From mix type selection to laydown, there are many paths to proper density. We'll take a look at key steps and decisions that will help contractors and owners in the placement of a long-lasting asphalt pavement.

1:35 PM Quality Mapping

This presentation will map out how to map quality from the plan to the finish roller. It will share insights of consulting from the past 7 years partnering with Ingevity where we have consistently used this process to achieve >80% of available bonus on projects. Mapping uses current technology correctly and ties performance in the field to performance at the plant. If it isn't working there's a reason why.

1:55 PM Benefits of In-Place Density Measurement of Asphalt Using a Non-Nuclear Density Gauge

What are the benefits of in-place density measurement of asphalt using a non-nuclear density gauge?

  1. provides immediate compaction data; large amounts of data points ( more than any other test method).
  2. ability to make on-site adjustments to rolling pattern; confidence that specified 1.0% compaction improvement has been achieved.
  3. can be used on every project, every day without restriction by any operator

2:00 PM GPR for Air Launched Antennas to Determine Density of Newly Laid Compacted Asphalt

The subject and agenda of this presentation are to show how GPR works using air-launched antennas (also known as air-coupled antennas). Air-launched antennas are used to evaluate:

  • Sub-surface information for roads
  • Layer thickness - Condition - Materials (indirectly)
  • The density of newly laid compacted asphalt

2:25 PM More Density by Sakai Oscillatory Roller and Vibratory Pneumatic Roller

Learn how double drum oscillation at optimal amplitude and the Vibratory Pneumatic Tire Roller improves in place density more than traditional compaction rollers.

2:50 PM Analyzing the Job

Soil compaction technologies like Compaction Measured Value (CMV) and Machine Drive Power (MDP) coupled with mapping ensures uniform compaction to a target value over the entire job site. Pavers equipped with hopper temp sensors and thermal cameras can map suspect areas before final compaction begins. Breakdown rollers equipped with Intelligent Compaction (IC), mapping, mat temp sensors and oscillation, can all be used together to ensure uniform compaction.
