A funny thing happened when the Texas A&M Transportation Institute received a grant to find local workers for the road-construction industry. High school and college educators, businesses, and even local charities came out of the woodwork, trying to find ways to help. So far, the program has started building an industry-led 15-week curriculum that will provide candidates with the knowledge and skills they need to jumpstart their careers with roadway contractors. TTI’s Highway Construction Workforce Partnership is just getting started. Although many unknowns exist, if enthusiasm for the program counts, it’s already a success!
