Dr. Sheng Hu is a Research Engineer at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) and a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (PE #103577). He has over 20 years of research experience in pavement design and evaluation, complemented by certifications as a Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. He is proficient in multiple programming languages, including Python, C#, VB, Fortran, MATLAB, and SQL. Since joining TTI in 2005, Dr. Hu has led and contributed to numerous TxDOT and NCHRP research projects, focusing on the development of advanced pavement design systems and evaluation tools. His key contributions include the Texas Asphalt Concrete Overlay Design and Analysis System (TxACOL), Reflection Cracking Prediction System (RCPS), Texas Perpetual Pavement (TPP) Database, Texas Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design System (TxME), Pavement Grinding Diagnostic Program (GrindDiagnostics), Aggregate Ring Texturing System (ARTS), Laser Analyzer for Pavement Surfaces (LAPS), as well as profiler data analysis tools that support profiler evaluation and certification. Dr. Hu has also developed several mechanistic analysis tools, including the semi-analytical finite element program SA-CrackPro, the viscoelastic finite element program VE2D, and the viscoelastic function inter-conversion tool LVEmaster. These tools have been successfully applied in research projects and pavement design systems across Texas and at the national level, contributing to innovation in the field. He has authored over 40 publications in leading journals and conferences, and his work has been recognized with multiple honors, including research excellence awards from the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT).
